As your dog’s owner/handler, you are helping your dog to make a game out of “finding the hide” by using his sniffer. He is accessing his natural hunting instinct (they all have it) by engaging his overactive olfactory system. It is the most fun game in town.
In 2010 I decided to phase out of a successful residential real estate career in order to start playing with dogs. I was soon teaching and competing in the sport. I still do this and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I have progressed to now also judging many of these competitive trials.
NOSE WORK is an opportunity for boundless fun.
Dogs orient to their world by using their noses. What Nose Work does is aid in the expression of their true excitement to hunt. They are rewarded by treats/food when they find the “hide”. The fun is in the opportunity and experience of sharing it with their best friend.
The rapid of the sport stems from the wisdom of the Co-Founders of K9 Nose Work®; the late Ron Gaunt, Amy Herot, CPDT-KA and Jill Marie O’Brien, CPDT-KA. When they organized and gave birth to the sport they made sure it was suitable for all types of dogs from the Chihuahua to the Cane Corso, and thus it’s popularity.
It already is your dog’s passion, they just haven’t told you yet. Or maybe you weren’t listening. Call me to talk about it, I’ll translate for you.

The Nose Work sport has become so monumental that there are now other organizations that offer opportunities to compete in this sport. Best known are AKC (Americal Kennel Club), UKC (United Kennel Club) C-WAGS (Canine Work And Games) are just a few. I have been approved to be a Judge in all these organization’s Trials.
