There is an intriguing sport for your dog that is thriving in popularity across the nation.

This sport is known as K9 Nose Work®. The only official sanctioning and organizing body is the National Association of Canine Scent Work ™ (NACSW

These next 3 points are going to be important to understand if you want to keep reading.

  • This is not dog training, the dogs train us.

  • This is a sport you can share with your dog.

  • The focus is on ALLOWING YOUR DOG TO HAVE FUN.

As your dog’s handler/owner, you are helping your dog to make a game out of ‘finding the hide.’ Using his sniffer to find the treat. Engaging his overactive olfactory system to ‘play.’

But I get ahead of myself.

I am Roger Lautt and I discovered Dog K9 Nose Work® quite by accident when I was helping combat veterans, like myself, get through the challenges of PTSD. I now have the dog owners thanking me too.  Bringing fun into people’s lives is an endless opportunity of fun for me.

This sport fits with all kinds of pets. For example, one dog owner, let’s call her ‘Mindi’ came to me and said her Beagle was getting older and couldn’t run very well in the park anymore. It broke her heart to see ‘Max’ get so cranky and grumpy. He just wasn’t himself.

But then she discovered K9 Nose Work®.

K9 Nose Work® has allowed her beloved ‘Max’ to get the mental stimulation he craves. Plus, the K9 Nose Work® helps to tire him out so he can get the sleep he needs. Her ‘Max’ may be getting older, but he still has that spark for living. She got her old Max back.

So leave your ‘obedience training’ mindset at the front door.

It is more about facilitating the development of the dogs’ hunting part of his brain. This is a  natural instinct for your dog. Being rewarded with food, treats, and toys make it even more fulfilling.

K9 Nose Work® is an opportunity for boundless fun.

Dogs have a natural instinct to use their noses. What K9 Nose Work® does is aid in the expansion of their true excitement to hunt. The reward is the food or treats they find. The fun is in the opportunity.

The rapid growth stems from the wisdom of our Co-Founders; Ron Gaunt, Amy Herot, CPDT-KA, and Jill Marie O’Brien, CPDT-KA. When they organized the sport, they made sure to make it appropriate for all types of dogs.

It is now my passion too. I have seen it happen again and again for the dogs and the owners who love them.

Can it become your passion too?

It is already your dog’s passion. They just haven’t told you yet. Or maybe they did and you weren’t listening. Call me to talk about it. I’ll translate for you. I’m Roger Lautt.

The fastest-growing dog sport (referred to as Nose Work) is spreading across the country.
